Peidetud sissepääsuga speakeasydes veedeti mõnusa sumina saatel lõbusalt aega nautides alkohoolseid jooke, head seltskonda ja jazz muusikat. Sealt lahkuti alati läbi salajaste uste.

Speakeasys usaldati ja hoiti saladusi, peeti üksteisest lugu ja järgiti reegleid, et mitte liigset tähelepanu püüda.
